Job description Admits patients by receiving bookings from physicians; interviewing patients; entering patient information to the admissions database; obtaining signatures on legal consents and insurance forms; distributing patient information literature. Provides patients with information by explaining hospital admission policies, time of admission, room selection; answering inquiries. Verifies patient identity; preparing and placing identification band on patient. Ensures patient’s arrival to hospital room or testing area by assigning patient beds; notifying nursing unit of patient’s arrival; calling volunteer to transport the patient to the assigned area. Maintaining patient records, which includes detailing patient treatments and diagnoses as well as updating payment and medical insurance information. Processing patient payments and refunds. Identifying medical coding mistakes, typing errors, as well as patient underpayments or overpayments and rectifying them accordingly. Secures payments by screening insurance information; identifying patients requiring pre-admission approvals from third-party payers; verifying approvals; notifying patient accounts department of self-paying admissions. Communicating with medical insurance providers to verify whether patient treatments will be covered. Answering patients’ questions regarding unsettled medical bills, reimbursements, and billing discrepancies. Contacting patients through email, written correspondence, or telephone to inform them of overdue balances. Provides information to the public by answering admitting procedure, hospital regulation and service inquiries of patients and the public; referring inquiries. Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures. Under the direction of the supervisor, conducts on-the-job training of new employees. Others as assigned by Reporting manager.
